Artist Statement

When I was a boy, I was captivated by wolves. These iconic animals really stir up the imagination and evoke rich images of freedom, strength, and the wilderness. That’s one reason why this project was enjoyable to do. In this piece, I was trying to convey all of that in a slightly kitschy way. There are so many elements that are just a bit over the top and a practically cliched: the majestic subject, propaganda style, halftone dots, overuse of grit, slightly melodramatic text in a vaguely western font. I hope it all adds up to a piece that’s fun for the audience. — Michael Czerniawski
