Artist Statement

This idea was originally drawn to visually represent the feeling of feeling stuck and heartbroken. The hollow feeling in one?s heart isn?t something easy to overcome. This is why I wanted to represent the heartbreak of deforestation and what it does to our environment. Many animals, birds, plants, reptiles, amphibians, insects all call the Rainforest home, yet we as humans constantly take their land and use their homes and resources either as land for (more) ranches, farms and urban use. Other uses include timber used for fuel (coal) or building. These lands then turn into inhabitable wastelands and more and more of them are being created as more and more species of all the above continue to decline into extinction. This is the heartbreaking truth and I hope that my illustration portrays that feeling justly. We all need to do better, and trust more in healthier options both for ourselves as well as our planet Earth. - Tina Schofield
